Botswana: The Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs team visited Mathathane village to check on the entrepreneurs in the village. The Ministry Team visited have been with the aim to promote assess several entrepreneurs who have been participating in the AWOME training programme.
One of the entrepreneurs who received the visit from the Ministry team was Annah Semaseko. She is the owner of Annie’s Tombstone (Pty) Ltd.
The business, Annie’s Tombstone specializes in the sale of tombstones in the country. The officials have shared that the business has been operational since the month of May 2021.
The business owner Semaseko shared her experience being a part of the AWOME initiative. The officials have shared that the AWOME training had a significant impact on her business. particularly in helping her establish a steady cash flow.
She discussed about her expenses including transportation, rent, and customs. She also discussed that she also paid for the clearance at the border, because her supplier is based in South Africa.
The officials have shared that that the business she was able to create employment by hiring an assistant.
With the help of a more secure cash flow, Semaseko taken her business to the next level by opening a tuck shop. The small-scale retail store serves as an additional source of income to enhance her financial security.
She promotes her business by advertising at funerals and distributing flyers to attract customers. The Botswana Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs has ben working diligently to make sure women in the country can participate in entrepreneurial activity.
AWOME trainers from the Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs also visited several other entrepreneurs in Mathathane. The businesswomen were delighted to have received the visit from the AWOME team.
The businesswomen were excited and very grateful for the fact that they have the positive impact the programme has had on their lives.
