The Minister of Youth and Gender Affairs, Lesego Chombo, will be attending the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69). The Minister has already departed from Botswana for the event being hosted in New York, USA.
The event will be attended by a number of ministers and delegates from all over the world. The Minister left for the event on Saturday and will be getting the opportunity to meet many of her counterparts.
The theme for the commission is set to be “Review and Appraisal of the Implementation of the Beijing Declaration and platform for action and the outcomes of the 23rd Special session of the general assembly”.
The Ministry of Youth and Gender Affairs has termed the CSW 69 as an important global platform. The programme aims to highlight women’s rights. It also discusses the realities of women’s lives, and shapes global standards on gender equality and women’s empowerment.
The Minister will have the opportunity to take part in a High-Level Interactive Dialogue which will also include many representatives from regional commissions. While in New York , Minister Lesego Chombo will talk about the outcomes of the Beijing +30 review and the subsequent steps.
During the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), world stakeholders will be discussing a number of opportunities. They will talk about many issues that need to be addressed with the rest of the world in attendance. The topics under discussion will be include, among others: Human Rights, Education, Armed Conflict, Violence, Media, Health, Poverty, and Girl Child.
Botswana will also take the initiative to host a side event. The theme of the said side event will be, “Accelerated Women Owned Micro-Entrepreneurs”
The event will give the country an opportunity to make their goal of improving women entrepreneurship more apparent. They are working especially in micro enterprise development.
The government of Botswana has been working on these goals with various initiatives for accelerating women owned businesses.
During the Minister’s absence, Jacob Kelebeng will act as Minister of Youth and Gender Affairs. Lesego Chombo is expected back home on 18th March, 2025.
