Zambia: A pride of stray lions is becoming a cause of concern and fear for the people of Chitanda Chiefdom, Chibombo District, Central Province. Animal attacks are becoming very frequent in the country and have been terrorizing communities.
The authorities have shared that the community in Chitanda Chiefdom, Chibombo District has been urging the leadership to address this issue. The authorities within Chitanda Chiefdom has reported that the members of the community are scared for their and their children’s safety.
The officials have already started their work on the issue and have deployed security officials in the Chitanda Chiefdom, Chibombo District
Keembe Member of Parliament who also serves as the Justice Minister Princess Kasune highlighted the problem within the media. He also added that the animals have been causing families fear and insecurity. She revealed that people of the community report that they saw a pride of four lions in Mwanankalamu area which is making the people concerned for their safety.
MP Kasune has urged residents to remain vigilant about the and avoid risky areas.
The MP talked about this issue during a community meeting at Muundu Primary School in Keembe Constituency. Department of National Parks and Wildlife (NPWD) and Zambia Air Force (ZAF) will help track and drive the animals back to Kafue National Park.
ZAF will deploy a helicopter to help track the lions and ensure that the people remain safe and secure from the animals. The problem about animal sightings is also prominent in areas like Ipongo, Mumpili, and Malambanyama areas. The animals are also posing a threat to the people and livestock.
And Ipongo Ward Councillor Frazah Bbenkele has revealed that the lions may be Kafue animals from the National Park. So far these animals have killed six heads of cattle so far. Three of heerds were killed in Sichitampila Village on Thursday and another three herds were killed in Katowa Village on Friday.
