Dominica: President Sylvanie Burton visited to Beijing, China to attend the Global Leaders’ meeting on Women. On Oct 14, 2025 she met with President of China – Xi Jin Ping at the Great Hall of the People.
Reportedly, the meeting was arranged during the two-day event, where she also met with the Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) – Wang Huning; First Lady of China – Peng Liyuan; UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women – Sima Bahous, Mr. Burton and other spouses of world leaders who attended an exhibition to showcase the digital and intelligent empowerment for women and girls by highlighting innovation, inclusion and collaboration for gender equality.
President Sylvanie Burton said that China is a great friend and highly valued as a partner of Dominica and appreciated China’s valuable support and sincere friendship. She said that Dominica and China share common ideals and pursuits to deepen bilateral relations that will bring bright prospects for the people of Dominica.
Dominica is steadfastly committed to the one-China principle which will enhance cooperation with China in trade, agriculture, the green economy, new energy, healthcare, climate response, among other areas, strengthen people-to-people exchanges, advance cooperation between Latin America and the Caribbean and China, and write a new chapter in bilateral relations.
Sylvanie stated that China is a crucial force for peace and stability in today’s world. Its vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity and commitment to share development opportunities with the world and promoting solidarity among the Global South is inspiring and is a beacon of hope for the world.
Major initiatives have been put forward by President Xi Jinping that have charted the course for peaceful co-existence and common prosperity for all countries, such as:
- Global Development Initiative,
- Global Security Initiative,
- Global Civilization Initiative, and
- Global Governance Initiative
Dominica is ready to work closely with China to oppose unilateralism and hegemonism and safeguard the common interests of developing countries.
During their meeting, President Xi Jin Ping noted that Dominica is a good friend and good partner in the Caribbean. The diplomatic ties, established over 20 years ago, both the countries have always respected each other and treated each other equally.
They have consolidated political mutual trust by growing exchanges and cooperation in various fields and deepening friendship between the people. China and Dominica have set a good example of friendly cooperation between countries of different social systems and sizes.
China is ready to work with Dominica to further elevate the bilateral relations and deliver greater benefits to the people of two nations.
Considering this, President Xi Jin Ping emphasised that the two sides should consolidate political mutual trust and strengthen their experience shared on governance and exchanges between governments, legislatures and political parties.
According to him, the two sides should deepen practical cooperation. Also, China will continue to support Dominica in enhancing capabilities in climate action and disaster prevention and mitigation. Their relationship will strengthen cooperation in such areas as infrastructure, clean energy, healthcare, agriculture and empowerment of women, and enhance people-to people exchanges in culture, education and tourism.
Dominica and China should step-up multilateral coordination. Both the countries should jointly act on the four major Global Initiatives and strive for a community with a shared future for humanity. Efforts should be made to implement the consensus reached at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women and deepen cooperation on women’s capacity building.
