Dominica has welcomed the new Ambassador from the Republic of Indonesia – Fikry Cassidy, who presented his credentials to President of Dominica – Sylvanie Burton on Monday, Nov 10, 2025.
President Sylvanie Burton met the Ambassador from Indonesia and stated that Dominica and Indonesia are separated by many miles, yet they continue to share strong principles which has formed the foundation of their partnership for many years.
Burton stated, the two nations are separated by great distance, yet Dominica and Indonesia share fundamental values. They both have respect for sovereignty, peaceful coexistence, and their commitment to international cooperation and sustainable development.

She added that over the past 31 years, the countries have interacted within multilateral-fora, such as the United Nations where they continue to advocate for the interests of developing nations and the promotion of a more equitable global order.
In Dominica, they are particularly encouraged by Indonesia’s leadership among small island and developing states within the global south. Burton noted that Dominica looks forward to expanding their diplomatic ties as they tackle global challenges that affect these two nations.
President Sylvanie Burton mentioned that there is tremendous potential for deeper cooperation between Dominica and Indonesia, particularly in areas such as renewable energy, agriculture, education, and tourism.

She confirmed that as both the countries navigate the challenges of the 21st century, they are looking forward to:
- strengthen the bonds of friendship,
- expand technical and cultural exchanges, and
- explore opportunities for trade and investment that will benefit their people
Furthermore, Burton acknowledged the commitment made by the two countries to extend international development cooperation with Dominica focusing particularly on capacity building in areas such as disaster risk management education arts and culture agriculture and agricultural product processing fisheries and tourism.

Meanwhile, the new Ambassador of Indonesia to Dominica – Fikry Cassidy said that this milestone initiative represents Indonesia’s commitment to strengthen diplomatic relations with Dominica.
Fikry Cassidy stated that 2025 marks a significant milestone, as 31-years of diplomatic relation between Republic of Indonesia and the Commonwealth of Dominica.
Cassidy wishes to use this occasion to reaffirm Indonesia’s unwavering commitment to foster a strong and mutually beneficial partnership between the two nations as bilaterally and with the multilateral arena.
He added to his statement that, as fellow island nations, they share common perspective and confront shared challenges on the issue of global importance such as climate change and sea level rise. Also, the voice of Dominica is vital on the global states, and they can rely on the full and steadfast support of Indonesia with the multilateral organisation including the United Nation and other international bodies.
