Dominica: Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit visited the Loubiere to Grand Bay Road Project site and inspected the work in progress. The work is advancing significantly with major improvements underway along the 11 km corridor.
Reportedly, the major upgrades in the project includes enhanced drainage systems, slope stabilisation measures and the construction of stronger, climate-resilient bridges to ensure safer and more dependable travel for southern communities.
A drone footage captures glimpses from the work site and highlights the progress made till now to construct this critical route, which is being rebuilt and modernised to better withstand environmental challenges and support for long-term connectivity.
Along with this, PM Roosevelt Skerrit conducted a comprehensive site visit to several other major capital projects in the southern region that underscored the continued commitment to infrastructure development and community enhancement.
Dr. Skerrit’ visit to the sites included an inspection of the Bellevue Chopin Primary School, which is being improved with an aim to create a more modern and resilient learning environment.
He toured the South-Centre to check on the Grand Bay Housing Development project, by assessing progress on new homes that are designed to strengthen social support and provide safer living conditions.
He further visited the South-Mitchum Bridge project site and reviewed the structural upgrades intended to enhance climate resilience and transportation safety.
In addition to his visit of capital projects in the South, PM Skerrit also assessed the works at Snug Corner along the Loubiere to Grand Bay Road. The significant rehabilitation efforts of the road work are underway to improve its stability and connectivity.
Such visits highlight the administration’s hands-on oversight of development initiatives with the objective of advancing the quality of life for southern communities.
Considering his visit, Prime Minister Skerrit said that they are actively monitoring the major projects in the South. Currently, they are in Snug Corner on the Loubiere to Grand Bay Road, where a new bridge is being constructed.
He said that this area needed a proper bridge for many years, and the government of Dominica is now delivering it through this large capital project. He will be speaking with the Parliamentary Representative, Minister Julian Defoe and Minister Vince Henderson, the Minister of Agriculture, and the Permanent Secretary, regarding this.
