Cape Town: Robben Island Museum introduced a new tour time slot, for an unforgettable holiday experience during the festive season. The museum offers two tours which the visitors can join.
The first is Sunrise Tour, this starts at 08:00 a.m. or the second which is Sunset Tour that begins at 05:00 p.m. Both the tours can be visited from Dec 13, 2025 to Jan 09, 2026.
Robben Island Museum (RIM) is a public entity responsible for managing, maintaining, presenting, developing and marketing Robben Island as a national estate and World Heritage Site. The museum was established by the department of Arts and Culture in 1997.
Commonly known as RIM, it implements a wide a range of conservation, educational, tourist development, research, archiving and general heritage programmes that are designed to achieve its mandate, conserve the natural and cultural resources of the Island and its heritage. This also promotes itself as a platform for critical debate and life-long learning.
The visitors can explore the rich history of this World Heritage Site. They can enjoy the breathtaking views in the calm of early morning or the golden glow of late afternoon. The ticket prices vary for South Africans and for the people who are not from South Africa.
As the residents of South Africa has to pay R400 fee per adult and R210 for children under age 18. Whereas, the non-South Africans has to pay fee of R600 per adult and R310 for children under age 18. People can book their tour and make memories on a site that holds global significance.
At Robben Island Museum (RIM) the visitors can see that it is responsible for managing and maintaining the assets of the Island. These include:
- the Maximum and Medium Security Prison Complexes
- Robert Sobukwe’s House
- the Curio and Village Shops
- the Village Precinct and associated recreational facilities
- the Helipad and runway on the Island
- World War 2 memorials
- power generation and water processing plants
- Jetty 1 and the Nelson Mandela Gateway at the V & A Waterfront
- the Mayibuye Archives
- the three (3) ferries that transport people to the Island
- the fleet of buses used by tourists on the Island
