Cape Town is ready for major auction of land parcels. Several significant properties will be included in this major auction of City-owned land parcels, scheduled for February 26, 2026.
Reportedly, approximately 50 opportunities, zoned for residential, commercial, industrial, community and mixed-use purposes, that will be made available for sale and lease. The full list will be accessible on the website of the City of Cape Town appointed auctioneer, Claremart Group.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Growth – Alderman James Vos said that this upcoming auction is an extraordinary opportunity for private-sector investment across the metro. From the Good Hope Centre precinct to commercial and industrial parcels in Mitchells Plain, Atlantis Industrial, Parow, and Goodwood, each site has been carefully packaged to attract capable investors who are ready to deliver tangible benefits for communities and the broader economy.
According to James Vos all properties identified for auction have been thoroughly assessed and are not required for municipal purposes. In total, approx. 282,000m² of land will be released. The sale of these properties will also generate revenue for the City of Cape Town that is to be used for the delivery of services.
Vos further stated that as part of his mandate, he is prioritising the release of well-located land to unlock economic potential. He firmly believes that the land portfolio must drive economic growth rather than sit idle, and this auction sets the standard for how they will put the properties to productive and purposeful use.
However, to ensure full transparency, bidders will have the opportunity to compete via a public auction. This is a major land release initiative that complements the broader pipeline of disposals successfully delivered over the past several years.
Alderman James Vos further clarified that Claremart Group will oversee the process in full compliance with all legislative and governance requirements.
