South Africa: A woman was reportedly sexually assaulted and robbed near Magwaveni, Tongaat, South Africa after she was dropped off in the wrong location by an e-hailing driver. According to the Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the incident was reported on Thursday, March 12, during the evening when the victim shared her location pin and requested for help.
Reaction Officers said that they received a call at approximately 7:34 pm for help and immediately responded to the mentioned location. Upon arrival at the location, they found the woman at a nearby tuck shop where officers interviewed her and recorded details about the incident. She reportedly appeared confused and disoriented at the time.
The victim mentioned that she had been in Glenwood, Durban- KZN on Wednesday when an unknown person arranged an e-hailing service on her behalf which she found unusual because she did not have that specific application on her phone.
As per her statements, the driver was meant to drop her off in Durban but instead he took her to Magwaveni in Tongaat and the driver also robbed her of R300 in cash before leaving her in the unfamiliar area.
After being robbed by the driver, she was looking for assistance in that unfamiliar area. When an unidentified female approached her and took her to a nearby residence where she allowed the victim to stay for the night. She further shared that the next morning the woman left the residence, leaving her alone inside the house.
She reported some time later, an unknown male allegedly entered the residence and offered her a drink. After a short while she became drowsy and soon lost consciousness.
In the afternoon she awoke and realized that she had been sexually assaulted.
She later walked to a nearby tuck shop and shared her location with a friend while requesting assistance. Moreover, due to her disoriented state the victim was unable to recall the actual location where the assault occurred. Police officials said that they are conducting an investigation to find the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
