Egypt has constructed the world’s largest military command headquarters, known as the Octagon, in the New Administrative Capital located about 45 kilometres east of Cairo. The complex covers 22,000 acres and consists of eight octagonal buildings.

It is the largest complex of its kind in the Middle East, this massive facility transcends traditional military headquarters, that serves as a miniature administrative and defence hub. It operates as an integrated centre for crisis management and smart command, standing as a living embodiment of the pillars of the New Republic.
This state-of-the-art facility integrates the latest command, control, communications and artificial intelligence systems. These advanced technologies accelerate decision-making, optimise coordination across all Armed Forces branches, and maximise national readiness against shifting regional and international challenges.
On Saturday, July 04, 2026, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi arrived at the State Strategic Command Headquarters, known as the Octagon, in the New Administrative Capital. His arrival was marked by a motorcycle procession, an artillery salute, and Apache helicopters flying overhead.
The President wearing a military uniform, inspected an array of military vehicles and equipment lined up along the route, and saluted the stationed troops during his tour. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi comprehensively inspected the State Strategic Command Headquarters complex while he was drove in an open-top vehicle.
Upon reaching the celebration platform, military bands played the national anthem during the high-level visit. President El-Sisi shook hands with senior officials as attendees welcomed his arrival.

The President was accompanied during the tour by Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces – Lieutenant General Ashraf Salem Zaher and Minister of Defense and Military Production – Lieutenant General Ahmed Khalifa. They conjoined by the Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces and the commanders of the main branches of the Armed Forces.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi then delivered a keynote speech and directed the military band to perform the “Salute to the Martyr,” and stated that on a day like this, they cannot forget Egypt’s fallen heroes and paid tribute to them.
He explained that this Military Strategic Command Centre represents a qualitative leap in the command, control and operations management system due to its advanced technological infrastructure, secure communication systems and superior capabilities in data integration. He stated that the headquarters manages more than just military operations. It serves as a core pillar for addressing exceptional challenges within a comprehensive vision to prioritise national security amidst rapid global changes.
President El-Sisi emphasised that despite these consecutive challenges, Egypt has made strenuous efforts to halt regional conflicts, de-escalate tensions, and prevent further bloodshed.
Furthermore, Pres. El-Sisi stated that he is profoundly aware of the economic burdens borne by citizens. He highlighted that improving living standards and alleviating public suffering remain the state’s top priority and the primary focus behind every decision.
President of Egypt concluded his address by paying tribute to the resilient Egyptian people, the righteous martyrs, and the Armed Forces as the nation’s shield and sword. He also commended the civil police and all state institutions dedicated to protecting the country and shaping its future, ensuring that Egypt remains an enduring fortress of security and prosperity.
