Kenya is strengthening is partnerships with the United States and China, as they made their contribution to expand and modernise development at the Port of Mombasa. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) – Capt. William Ruto commended this relationship.
Capt. Ruto visited Port of Mombasa and received a delegation of beneficiaries of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations Programme. He highlighted the critical role which international partnerships have played in improving port efficiency, enhancing cargo handling capacity and strengthening the Port of Mombasa’s position as a leading regional maritime and logistics hub.
During the engagement, Capt. Ruto also noted several achievements that were realised through various partnership programmes. They have largely supported infrastructure development, operational excellence and the adoption of modern technologies at the port.
Capt. Ruto reaffirmed commitment made by KPA to foster strategic international collaborations that support sustainable port development and enhance Kenya’s competitiveness in global trade.
Deputy Vice President of National Committee on U.S.-China Relations – Jonathan Lowet described the study tour visit as both valuable and eye-opening. He joined the organisation in 2004.
Lowet said that the programme was designed to help participants in gaining a deeper understanding of how the Port of Mombasa has transformed the regional trade corridor and contributed to foreign investment, industrial development, manufacturing growth and regional economic integration.
The delegation further comprised Schwarzman Scholars alumni from various countries who are beneficiaries of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations Programme. This visit also provided the scholars with a first-hand opportunity to witness the transformation of the Port of Mombasa and appreciate its contribution to regional trade, economic growth and connectivity across East Africa.
Considerably, the scholars commended the remarkable progress achieved at the Port of Mombasa and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn about the port’s operations and its growing role as a key gateway to the East and Central African region.
