Kenya: Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba presided over the official launch of the upcoming Magical Kenya Open Golf and the Magical Kenya Ladies Open 2024. The opening ceremony took place at the Muthaiga Golf Club on Wednesday.
The Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Cabinet Secretary has been working hard to develop the sports and creative industries of Kenya. While working towards this mandate, the Cabinet Secretary has spearheaded several initiatives on behalf of the ministry.
While addressing the media, CS Namwamba reiterated that the launch marked the official count down to the major National sporting events of the Magical Kenya Golf and the Magical Kenya Ladies Open which government through his Ministry was the main sponsor.
Additionally, the Cabinet Secretary said that the golf sporting event in Mombasa and Nairobi was a world class event. The initiative provided an incredible opportunity for economic growth and that it was best for Kenya to welcome the world, “This is absolutely a world class event with incredible coaching.
We are delighted that golf continues to attract more corporate partners and we appreciate all the partners that have come to support this event. This event has an incredible volume of eyeballs,” he quipped.
CS Ababu Namwamba confirmed that through the #TalantaHela initiative, his Ministry had established a pipeline to identify, nurture and monetize talents to supporting all the efforts being pumped into Sports to make livelihood of the young people better.
The CS lauded the Kenya Golf Union for their efforts of demystifying the game as an elitist sport. He added that the ministry was keen on continuing its #HustlaBazaar initiative which he said had provided Kenya’s hustla’s with an opportunity to put #PesaMfukoni.
“Last year, we opened the doors of the green lawns of Muthaiga and Vipingo to the hustlers to leverage on the sport to do business with an international market. We want to assure you that this year, we are also putting up the #HustlaVillage and in a big way.
We are doing so to allow even those in the bottom of the pyramid to contribute to the economic growth line with the Government’s Bottom up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA)” he noted.
The Cabinet Secretary Ababy Namwamba later attended a prize giving ceremony of the Safari Tour Series that was taking place at the golf club, where he awarded winners with various trophies and cash awards for their performances in the series.
