Afreximbank has strengthened partnerships to unlock new investment opportunities between Africa and China. It welcomed a delegation from the China-Africa Development Fund (CADFund) to the Bank’s Headquarters for discussions on expanding strategic collaboration and advancing investment across the continent.
Director of AU/AfCFTA Relations and Trade Policy – Yusuf Daya led the Afreximbank delegation engaged with the CADFund team, which was led by the Senior Investment Manager – Liu NingChuan. Together, they explored opportunities in equity investments, debt and co-financing, pipeline development, capital mobilisation and RMB-denominated financing.
The meeting further reaffirmed the shared commitment of both institutions to strengthen China-Africa economic cooperation by mobilising capital, supporting investment projects and fostering partnerships that drive sustainable growth and industrial development across Africa.
Furthermore, in advancing Africa’s aviation sector, it is essential to unlock trade, connectivity and economic integration.
Considering this, Afreximbank participated in the inaugural African Air Transport Convention & Expo 2026 in Lomé, Togo. It joined policymakers, regulators, development finance institutions and industry leaders to accelerate the implementation of the Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM).
Delegation of the Bank was led by Executive Vice President, Intra-African Trade & Export Development – Kanayo Awani. It also included Director of Trade Facilitation & Investment Promotion – Gainmore Zanamwe; Director of Project and Asset-Based Finance – Helen Brume; Senior Manager of Project & Asset-Based Finance – Nene Addo; and Assistant Manager of Trade Facilitation & Investment Promotion – Chisom Ozoemena-Ezeaku.
During the Convention, Afreximbank highlighted its financing and trade facilitation initiatives which includes the Pan-African Payment and Settlement System – PAPSS, and the Global Africa Leasing Company and Free Route Airspace. It hosted a dedicated workshop on aviation investment, financing opportunities, governance, human capital development and strategic partnerships.
Notably, the Convention concluded with the adoption of the Lomé Declaration, that reaffirmed a shared commitment to build a more connected, affordable and competitive African aviation ecosystem that supports the objectives of the AfCFTA and Agenda 2063.
