Cape Town: Al-Imdaad Foundation Western Cape team distributed weatherproof sleeping bags, blankets, and hygiene packs as part of Operation Winter Warmth.

Beneficiaries included some of the most vulnerable residents of the Paarl community outside Cape Town, as well as Rawsonville, where recent heavy rains resulted in rivers bursting their banks and flooding in low-lying parts of the town.

Distributing ration and warm clothes can make a huge difference for someone struggling in winter. It is a wonderful way to spread kindness with the inspiration Al-Imdaad Foundation’s helping needy families.

However, Al-Imdaad foundations have taken this initiative before. In 2019 also, their teams continued to spread the warmth that winter. In Cape Town, they partnered with some local businessmen to distribute food, bedding and warm hats to families in Delft and Voorburg.

In Durban, winter gowns were delivered to patients at Albert Luthuli Hospital and in Chatsworth, blankets and warm hats were given to families in Unit 2.

Summer homes are made in winter. It may sound counterintuitive, but winter is the perfect time to begin preparing for the home so that it is ripe and ready to shine bright in the summer sun.

Kim Williams is a well-known interior designer, behaviour specialist, and owner of the Kim Williams Design studio in Cape Town. Recently, she had the chance to design summer homes and found the experience to be very educational.

“In winter, we naturally tend to prepare our spaces for comfort, warmth, and protection from the harsh elements. Plenty of candles, fluffy blankets, throws and textured carpets for added layers exist. Even our seating areas are rearranged so that we get maximum exposure to that crackling fireplace,” Kim said.

For several years, the Al-Imdaad Foundation has provided homes to needy people. The residents who have received homes through this initiative have expressed their gratitude and offered blessings to the foundation. As one resident stated, “May Allah Tala bless the foundation and the team.”
