Cape Town: Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Growth and Tourism – Alderman James Vos acknowledged the arrival of over 10 million passengers in year 2024. He said that the city is breaking records and reaching new heights as Cape Town International Surpasses.
James Vos said that he is excited to celebrate the incredible achievement of Cape Town International Airport of surpassing 10 million passengers in 2024. They have recorded a total of 10.4 million travelers considering an increase of 7% from year 2023.
According to him, this included a record-breaking 3 million two-way international passengers, marking a 10% rise compared to the previous year i.e. 2024. He highlighted that breaking the record of 10 million, is a major milestone that showcases significant development of Cape Town in global connectivity and economic growth.
Vos thanked the team at Cape Town International Airport for their continued hard work and ensured that the airport remains a world-class gateway for travelers.
He explained that they are eager to hear from Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) about their major plans to upgrade the airport, particularly to handle the increasing number of aircraft operations and passenger movements. These upgrades are critical to ensure that the airport can accommodate future growth and maintain its exceptional standards.
As per James Vos, Aviation is a cornerstone of the economy with every 100 international arrivals creating two jobs that benefit local businesses and communities. He expressed, “I truly enjoy working with the airlines and partners through the ‘Choose Cape Town’ campaigns to expand the connectivity and showcase the immense value of the City of Cape Town.”
The Economic Growth and Tourism Alderman confirmed that the city has recorded 27% growth in air cargo volumes that reinforces the vital role aviation which plays in driving trade and investment.
He emphasised that Cape Town is not just a destination, it is a global hub of opportunity. “Together with the partners at Air Access and Cape Town Tourism, I look forward to build on this success and continue to create opportunities for all,” stated Vos.
