Zambia: Provincial Minister Kapelwa Mbangweta asked the bankers in Western Province to construct a bank in Nkeyema District. The addition of the new banking facilities is an urgent need for the people of the country especially in the of Western Province.
The people of the country do not have access to banking facilities in the district.
The construction of the bank will help in making sure that the people in the district are financially literate. The banking facilities will also help make sure that the people know the responsible use of their funds.
The officials have shared that the members of the community should have equal rights and access to the banking facilities. The officials have shared that in the absence of facilities gets the people of the country into the hands of unofficial lenders.
These lenders are not regulated by the government and can often lead to exploitation of the people who are in need of the loans.
The Provincial Minister made the remarks after Access Bank Managing Director, Lishala Stumbeko paid a courtesy call on him. Mbangweta said Nkeyema was developing at a fast rate, hence he sees the need for bankers to establish a bank in the area.
Banking facilities will also help make sure that the people can keep their finances safe and separate. The lack of proper banks and facilities in the district leads to many people in the district to lose out on opportunities.
He said the absence of banking services in Nkeyema leads to some farmers falling prey to scammers. They have lost money through fraudulent money transactions.
The media reports that the Minister, who is also Nkeyema Member of Parliament, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to upgrade the Sikongo/Shangombo road in order to boost trade between Zambia and Angola.
Responding to the call by the Minister, Access Bank Managing Director, Lishala Situmbeko said feasibility study would be carried out in order to designate the suitable area for the construction of the bank.
