Botswana: Batswana celebrated the 58th anniversary of the nation’s Independence from British Empire on September 30. The leaders of Botswana announced that the the celebration also served as a platform to honour the people who have contributed to the development of Botswana.
The government recognized the people who have helped in the progress and growth of the country for almost six decades. The President of Botswana, Dr. Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi was present at the event where the deserving persons were given the awards and recognition.
The Botswana Honours & Awards ceremony event was also attended by the people of the country. Attendants came from various sectors of the country’s economy and celebrated the anniversary of Botswana’s independence.
In line with the Botswana Honours Act, the ceremony awarded the deserving people in four key categories:
- Naledi ya Botswana
- The Presidential Order of Honour
- The Presidential Order of Meritorious Service
- The Presidential Certificate of Honour.
These awards are a proof that the country is grateful for the services of to those who have served the nation with sincerity. Furthermore, the honors and awards that the government of Botswana has given the recipients are extremely meaningful.
The Naledi ya Botswana award is the highest honour of the nation. It is the most prestigious award presented to members of Botswana’s negotiation teams from both 2011 and 2023.
The recipients were acknowledged for the vital role that they played in securing favorable agreements for the country. Notably, the Minister of Minerals and Energy, Lefoko Moagi was among the recipients of this award. He was the leader of the team for the 2023 negotiations with De Beers,
This year’s ceremony also highlighted the women of Botswana who are breaking stereotypes and excelling in their fields. Lesego Chombo Miss World Africa was awarded the Presidential Order of Meritorious Service for her outstanding work. She was reprenting the youth and the creative industries,
Finance Minister Peggy Serame received the Presidential Order of Honour, She was honored for her role in championing women’s empowerment. She was trusted with the responsibility for showcasing the possibilities for women in leadership and breaking barriers in traditionally male-dominated fields.
