Botswana: The Private Security Licensing Unit has kick started the Automation of Private Security services. This was revealed recently during the pre-piloting project work shop where ten (10) private security services companies and two (2) Board Members were invited to assess the readiness and get customer feedback on the new System.

When welcoming participants, Peter Bailang, Acting Chairperson of the Private Security Services Licensing Board, informed them of the evolving technological world we are living that needs the Security sector to move with the times. He encouraged the companies to not be left behind as this can be a deal breaker in getting business.

“As we implement Mindset Change aligned with The Reset Agenda Priority 3 of Digitalisation, the Ministry, in May 2023, commenced the Private Security Licensing Digitalisation Project.”

Bailang indicated that Automation of the Private Security Services is to fulfil President Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi’s words when launching the Reset Agenda when he said: “The global village runs on the wheels of digitalisation, which is quintessential to the delivery of services to the people.”

The Chief Inspector and Licensing Officer, Tshenolo Ratshosa, who gave an overview of the Project, informed participants that the commencement of the System is eminent, so they need to brace themselves for a new normal. He said, “Rona mo Ministry of Defence & Security re chenchile and today re tlile go chencha le lona.”

At the end of the workshop, Thabo Reetsang, the Director of Assent Security, appreciated the development and saw it as the growth of the Sector. He said this was long awaited as having one office servicing the whole country was a serious disadvantage to them as customers.
