Botswana: Children across Botswana came together in the Mochudi main Kgotla to celebrate World Children’s day. Theme of the celebration was organized under the theme: “Inclusive and quality education for all”.
The World Children’s day is an annual event, which is backed by UNICEF. The day is aimed at reminding the people of the country to work together for the welfare of children.
The officials have shared that it is important for the community to be able to stand steadfast for the rights of the children. On this occasion, children raised their voices on the issues impacting their lives.
They were given the opportunity to share their ideas for a better world and called on adults to protect and uphold the rights of every child It is important for the members of the community to understand the importance of having the voice of children be heard.
The organization, while commemorating the World Children’s Day, wanted to promote collaboration among children. They want to give the children an opportunity to understand the importance of meaningful participation.
The in decision making processes on issues that affect them and to raise awareness about the rights and needs of children through consultations among children and with adults.
Botswana has been organizing these events for thelast four years. The aim of the commemoration is to reaffirm the commitment of Batswana to amplifying the voice of the children
The government has promised to defend, protect and promote children’s basic human rights. The Minister of Child Welfare and Basic Education, Kebuang Nono Kgafela-Mokoka made these remarks during the official commemoration
The Minister reflected on the theme for the 2024 edition of World Children’s Day. She said that the development of the country is reflected by the amount of safety children of the said nation enjoy.
If children enjoy basic human rights, thee administration’s programmes are considered a significant step. This is especially during their formative years.
She also highlighted that the theme is in line with this year’s Africa Union (AU) declaration to dedicate 2024 to education with the intention to build resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality and relevant learning in Africa.
Minister said she is glad to have the opportunity to lead a new ministry; Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education. She has expressed hope that the organisation will address children’s issues holistically from conception until they attain age of maturity.
She said she believes the mandate of her Ministry in Botswana will focus on providing comprehensive support, protection, and education for children, not only to ensure they have access to quality basic education; but also to ensure they are safeguarded from any form of harm
