Botswana: “I will unveil the Ministry of Defence and Security Mindset Change Roadmap and commission it for use by all departments in the Ministry”, Mmusi.
“Mindset change involves a systematic approach to shifting one’s thinking, beliefs, and attitudes. Whether it’s for personal growth, professional development, or achieving specific goals. The Ministry of Defence and Security Mindset Change Roadmap is designed to guide us in the mindset change journey”, said the Minister during the unveiling.
The Ministry’s mindset change initiative is a strategy for organisational improvement. It is a response to public concerns relating to declining productivity levels. Above all, it is an acknowledgement by all in the Ministry that our collective efforts have not been impactful enough to create a crime-free environment, which undoubtedly is a prerequisite for peace and stability.
In this regard, the mindset change initiatives will seek to promote ‘High levels of awareness of Vision 2036’, ‘Achieving Prosperity For All’ and evidence of individual passion for achieving Vision 2036.
The Ministry of Defence and Security Mindset Change Roadmap is a two-phase transformation initiative. The first phase is an employee engagement process to communicate the benefits of mindset change to promote understanding and the reasoning behind change.
The phase entails creating attention, engagement, and a desire to change prevailing mindsets. Under this phase, change leaders will be designated to engage with officers who will be affected by change and provide support for the change.
The second phase focuses on translating knowledge, attitudes, and beliefs into action. This entails training and skills development to promote the high-performance mindsets and behaviours needed for change to occur. The phase also covers measures to reinforce and sustain culture change.
The Roadmap has been designed, and it allows customisation to cater for specific needs at the departmental level. This nature of the plan should enable the Ministry to develop local guidelines for use at the respective agencies.
