Botswana: The Botswana Education Department organized a mass media complex for the students on Sunday, November 19th 2023, the occasion of World Children’s Day.
As per the sources, the event was all fun at Mass Media Complex as children, mainly students from different schools, converged at Mass Media Complex to have a hands on experience of working in the media environment Sunday, November 19th 2023.
The Education Department of Botswana gave an opportunity to children’s to take up key roles such as character generator operators, producers, editors, and presenters.
The ‘Media Take Over’ is an important activity of World Children’s Day because children get to interact with professionals who usually address issues affecting them (children) using the various media platforms.
At the BOPA newsroom of Botswana, in addition to a hands on editing experience, the kids were taken through the process of Daily News production. Mr Thebeyame Ramoroka, Acting Deputy Director BOPA, explained to the children that Daily News, in its reporting, takes children’s rights and issues seriously in all its processes and production.
In addition, Director Thebeyame Ramoroka said working for Daily News requires commitment, discipline, and dedication because its production requires employees to be at work for endless hours in order to deliver quality service to its customers.
Motlalepula Mokgadi, acting deputy director of publications, encouraged the kids to take reading the Daily News seriously. That’s where they can find most information on government programmes and policies aimed at empowering livelihoods.
UNICEF of Botswana also wished Children on Children’s Day and celebrated Children’s Day with Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe as they presented the call to action to the Presidents at the #WCD regional event in Namibia, urging the strengthening of the relations.
