Botswana: The community of Maunatlala yesterday welcomed the development of a newly built community engagement centre. The initiative is the collaborative efforts of the Robert and Sarah Rothschild Family Foundation and the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture.
Officiating at the event, the Assistant Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture, Honest Buti Billy, stated that the establishment of the community engagement centre, which consists of volleyball and basketball pitches coupled with handicrafts and culinary skills development spaces, among others aligns with the mandate of the Ministry taking into consideration the development of creative industries, promotion of cultural diversity and sport.
The Minister pointed out that the construction of the sporting facilities in the setup will not only promote sport and fitness among the youth and the general community of Maunatlala but will keep the youth engaged while at the same time offering a platform for talent identification for professional sport.
The Assistant Minister commended the leadership of Maunatlala for their visionary outlook in advocating for the construction of the facility.
For their part, Robert and Sarah Rothschild of the Robert and Sarah Rothschild Family Foundation expressed their gratitude for the cooperative philanthropic partnerships they enjoy with communities in Botswana, which they state spans approximately 17 years. The foundation is set to start constructing a maternity wing in a clinic at Maunatlala next January.
Programmes to be run in the newly opened community centre include pottery, sewing, weaving jewellery and culinary lessons.
Botswana Youth Development thanked the MC at the grand opening of the Maunatlala Community Engagement Centre, an event graced by the esteemed Assistant Minister of Youth, Sports, Culture & Gender, Buti Honest Billy.
This centre marks a historic milestone as the FIRST of its kind in Botswana, promising boundless opportunities for our community.
They also gave a special shoutout to the Robert & Sarah Rothschild Family Foundation for their generous support in making this dream a reality.
