Botswana: The Botswana Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sports and Culture (MYSC) joined the Indian community to celebrate the recognition of Garba as an Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH).
UNESCO has announced Garba as an Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) last week. The Indian community all over the world is celebrating this remarkable achievement.
The ministry has announced that this is a moment of pride for the Gujaratis and Indians in Botswana. The Indian High Commission to Botswana has joined the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sports and Culture to celebrate.
The High Commission, the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), and the Department of Arts and Culture, also extended greetings and celebrated the occasion to entertain the audience. They staged various performances which portray the cultural diversity between the two nations.
Garba Significance
The Garba is a 9 days festival celebrated during the Navaratri. In the Gujrati and communities across the globe, the event is dedicated to embracing feminine energy.
The people engage in cultural, performative and visual expressions. The Botswana Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sports and Culture (MYSC) announced that Garba stands as a unifying force. It is responsible for fostering social equality and strengthening community bonds.
These aspects serve as a motivation to the Indian community to preserve and promote cultural heritage for future Indian generation.
The festival was hosted In Botswana for 3 days. The first edition of the celebration was held in Kasane during 18.com event on December 4th. In Francistown, the civic center played host to the celebration on December 7
In the capital city, Gaborone on the December 8. The aim of the event was to encourage cultural heritage for future generations worldwide and to witness the beauty of Indian culture in Botswana.
To end the evening, the Mafitlhakgosi traditional youth dance group graced the audience with a variety of energetic setswana dances and music found in Botswana such as phathisi, tsutsube, hosana and many more with the aim to highlight the importance of cultural diversity.
