Botswana: The Botswana Police Service attended the ongoing inaugural African Forensic Sciences Academy (AFSA) Conference. The event was hosted in Kigali, Rwanda, which commenced from 22nd to 28th September 2024.
The Police Forces of several nations in the continent participated in the event to gain in depth knowledge about forensic sciences. The art of forensic sciences is extremely crucial for the continued discharge of the law enforcement duties of the organizations.
The members of the Botswana Police Service shared some images from the event on their official social media. They shared that the conference was most enlightening for them and help them interact with their counterparts in different parts of the continent. The officials have shared that they had the opportunity to learn from their peers experiences and build on them
Giving a keynote address on Building a sustainable Forensic Ecosystem in Botswana, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police, Anthony Wally, underscored the invaluable contributions of Forensic Science to crime investigation, detection rates, prevention, public safety, justice, and humanitarian efforts in providing closure to families of the deceased.
The conference was hosted under the theme, “Forensic Ecosystems in Africa”. The conference since focuses on transitioning forensic services from behind laboratory doors to becoming essential tools for managing crime and addressing issues of public interest.
Over 500 participants from 30 African countries and regions, including the USA, Australia, Europe, and Asia are attending the event. The leaders have shared that the leadership of the nation is delighted to see the capacity building opportunities that they had seen their officers going through.
The people of the nation are delighted to share that the conference will help in ensuring that the people of Botswana are safe and secure. Botswana was commended for its commitment to a scientific approach to crime management and its leading role in the use of Forensic Science in Africa.
The officials have shared that it is important for them to make sure that the Botswana Police Service officials engage with other Police units in the continent regularly. The officials have shared that it will help in promoting a sense of unity.
