Gaborone, Botswana: The President of Botswana, Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, President of the Republic of Botswana, will attend the World Children’s Day sub-regional celebrations in Walvis Bay, Namibia, on November 19, 2023.
The Celebrations will be hosted by His Excellency Dr. Hage G. Geingob, President of the Republic of Namibia, under the theme, “Renewing Our Promise for Children’s Rights – Amplifying the Voices of Children and Young People.”
This is the third year that the Sub-Regional celebrations take place. They will bring together the Heads of State for Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe, as well as children from the four countries. The inaugural Celebrations were held in Botswana in 2021, and in 2022, they took place in Zambia.
The World Children’s Day Sub-Regional Celebrations provide the four Heads of State with a platform to discuss and exchange views on ways to support children’s rights and their well-being in their respective countries.
The Celebrations also allow children and youth in attendance to engage with the Presidents and give voice to issues affecting them, as well as encourage leaders to build a better future for every child.
Globally, World Children’s Day is observed every November 20 to promote children’s rights and collective responsibility in improving the welfare of children around the world.
His Excellency the President will be accompanied by Honourable Dr. Lemogang Kwape, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Honourable Kgotla Autlwetse, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development; Honourable Buti Billy, Assistant Minister of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture; Honourable Nnaniki Makwinja, Assistant Minister of Education and Skills Development; and Senior Government Officials. The delegation will also comprise thirty children from Botswana. The President will return to Gaborone on November 20 2023.
