South Africa, Botswana: The successful Mindset Change Rollout under the theme “Holistic Mindset Change, My Responsibility!- Are Chencheng, Maikarabelo ke ame”, ties in well with this week’s Life coaching session.
The Ministry of Defence and Security is aware that life coaching and mindset change are intertwined issues that cannot be divorced. MDS is, therefore, on a drive to ensure that staff issues do not go unnoticed. In fact, the Ministry has designed wellness programs to improve employee morale and sensitise staff on various issues that affect our everyday lives.
Be that as it may, MDS staff have been challenged to control and direct their thoughts and also to renew their thinking. This was said by life coach Elizabeth Makome from Awakening Greatness at a wellness coaching session, adding that thinking is a skill.
Makome said life coaching is essential in that it gives one direction, helps one focus on managing one’s life to get the most out of it, and helps one understand who one is. In addition, it was highlighted that life coaching is essential in that it helps people discover and live their life’s purpose and fulfil their highest and truest expression of themselves as human beings.
She said many of our problems were due to what we have been taught growing up and what we have held onto as a reflection of the truth. Makome pleaded with staff to introspect and start doing things differently in order to understand their life’s purpose.
“The mind, just like any other body part, can be controlled and taught to channel good”, Makome adding that “thinking is a skill” that one will have to re learn.
She went on to say that ‘the mind should be kept busy by thinking positive things, because what the mind thinks it can conceive’. She said some people walk around with information that they have been programmed into them from childhood, thereby limiting the human capacity to deliver to their full potential. ‘Some behaviour can be changed’, Makome noted.
It is added that having self-worth allows one not to be self-critical but rather it gives one the leverage to have self-confidence.
“People must get rid of unnecessary images in their heads by constantly thinking positive thoughts”, adding that what people say through their mouths tends to come true.
She said we tend to make our lives difficult by having misconstrued thoughts that do not serve us. ‘Positive thinking also helps one to have discipline in their daily lives’. In closing, Makome said, ‘we are the masters of our own destinies’, adding that ‘human beings operate on a frequency which can be fine-tuned at any given time’.
