Botswana: Botswana Red Cross Society is hosting a Sexual and Gender Based Violence and Psychological First Aid Training. BRCS is taking this initiative up in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture Botswana and International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
The representatives from all these organizations have travelled to Maun for the first aid training. The organization is also working hard to train the BRCS volunteers and give them the skills that they need to deal with cases of Gender based violence or psychological abuse.
The members of the organization have shared that it is important for the volunteers to know how to manage these cases. The victims of gender-based violence and psychological trauma are extremely sensitive need to be dealt with accordingly.
The Botswana Red Cross Society has remained dedicated to working for the welfare of the people of the country. They have helped several communities in times of crisis. The aim of this Sexual and Gender Based Violence and Psychological First Aid Training is to make sure that the Red Cross Society Volunteers can understand the signs and help people.
Through this training programme, Botswana Red Cross Society wants to include volunteers and Village Development Committee Members. They will be provided with the critical skills necessary to support their SGBV community action.
The Red Cross Society is resolute towards ensuring that the first responders at community level are capacitated with knowledge and skills. They believe that this basic training can contribute significantly towards a comprehensive SGBV response.
The launch of the training initiative was attended by several members of the Botswana Red Cross Society. The people who helped in bringing together the initiative include: Members of the District Gender Committee from Gender Affairs,
The other stakeholders included NGOs and Government departments. The Non Governemt Organization claimed that a multi-stakeholder approach is necessary in uprooting Sexual Gender Based Violence in our communities.
