Cape Town: The Social Development and Early Childhood Development Department of the city has started facilitating the first aid training for more than 400 ECD practitioners. The city breathes life into ECD safety practitioners as a part of its efforts to capacitate early learning centres and promote the child safety.
As per the sources, the Social Development and Early Childhood Development Department (SD and ECD) is facilitating First Aid Level-1 for 420 people who will work in the ECD sector.
The training is mainly conducted for two-days. The training course helps participants understand various aspects of the first aid.
Reportedly, the course includes how to assess and manage different types of injuries and common medical emergencies. The training session will also teach how to perform Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Considering this, the SD and ECD is also distributing the first aid kits to all of the ECDs represented at the training to ensure practical application should arise the need of the applicant.
Notably, the first aid training is one of the requirements for compliance for Early Childhood Development Centres.
Moreover, the participants were selected by the local ECD forums and who came from areas around the metropole.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Community Services and Health Councillor – Patricia Van der Ross said that the ECDs are very far away from home for thousands of young children in the city and it is important that their safety must be prioritised.
Patricia Ross mentioned that while the primary goal should be to avoid injuries, it is important to be prepared in the event for something like that to happen, which is crucial and that is what’s driving this initiative.
The councillor added that apart from the first aid training, the city Cape Town also facilitates business and financial management training to ECDs and guides then on compliance so that they are able to register their facilities with the provincial government.
