Botswana: The Botswana Ministry of Youth, Gender, Sport and Culture Botswana launched their Artsy Wednesday, in which they talked about Boitumelo Motlogelwa, a 30-year-old writer and speaker.
The special thing about Boitumelo Motlogelwa is that she is blind and lost her eyesight in 2019. She is from Mohupa, Botswana.
Motlogelwa, however, refused to see blindness as a setback and wrote her first book in 2022, which was published in 2023, titled “Guided by the Unseen: Navigating Life’s Purpose with Blindness.”
She participated as a panellist during the International Day of Girls Living With Disability, showcasing her ability to address and speak to large numbers of people with confidence, thus building her self-esteem as a young lady living with a disability.
In addition, she was also engaged as a speaker on behalf of her student representative council during a school meeting with Honourable Mmusi Kgafela, where she was given an opportunity to speak about the challenges they go through as visually impaired students in their day to day lives on campus.
The young and equipped Boitumelo also went as far as volunteering as a speaker during one of the school donations at Pudulogong Rehabilitation Centre where she had an advantage to speak about the challenges faced by the disabled in general.
Standing at the forefront of such meetings and gaining such knowledge gave her enough confidence to go against all odds and campaign for the Student Representative Council (SRC) elections, where she became the President of Pudulogong Rehab Centre for a period of 1 year (2023).
Further, there are some of her achievements:
Certificate in Secretarial & Administration, JAWS & Braille (Pudulogong Rehabilitation Centre).
The Diploma in Information Technology (Supa Brain College)
Medalist: Bronze (Orange Phikwe 2022 Marathon)
Silver (Kazungula Bridge Marathon 2023).
