Botswana: Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN) held its 6th graduation ceremony today in Gaborone under the theme ” Producing innovative graduates and technological solutions in agriculture and natural resources for sustainable development.”
Speaking at the event, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. K. Mosepele, said this year’s graduation ceremony is a celebration of many firsts. Professor said among those firsts, the University this year registered a huge number of graduates surpassing all the past years. Prof. Mosepele further said it is again the first time that the private sector sponsored the event.
The Vice Chancellor stated that Standard Chartered Bank sponsored the ceremony with P300 000. He thanked all the sponsors who partnered with the University in their endeavour to promote and realise a knowledge based economy.
Standard Chartered Bank Botswana CEO, Mpho Masupe encouraged the alumni to face the world with transformed minds and not look to be employed but be employers. The CEO echoed one of the President’s agenda “A re chencheng” and implored them to positively contribute to the national agenda.
Masupe said the Government is doing everything possible to create opportunities for Batswana, citing the vegetable ban and Temo Letlotlo programme highlighting that these are meant to promote local produce and create the much needed jobs.
Standard Chartered Bank sponsored the Best Overall Student Prize which Molatlhegi Polite Masego scooped. Other sponsors included Builders World, First National Bank, National Agricultural Research and Development Institute, Botswana Meat Commission and Botswana Vaccine Institute.
