Cape Town: The city celebrated 5th FAME Week Africa at CTICC. MMC for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith officially inaugurated the event as a festival partner.
Smith represented the City of Cape Town and celebrated FAME Week Africa as a key opportunity to showcase its top locations and talented film-makers. The event has become a significant platform for locals and for international creatives to share work, collaborate and network with others.
With a modest start by welcoming 3,000 attendees during Covid-19 restrictions, it has grown significantly and expects 7000 delegates to arrive in 2025 for over six days and five events.
Alderman JP Smith opened the City of Cape Town and Film Cape Town stand at the exhibition of FAME Week Africa. The stand is designed to showcase and highlight short films by talented and emerging film-makers from some tertiary and film institutions of Cape Town.
The City of Cape Town is collaborating with the students from AFDA, the Animation School, Film School Africa, CPUT, UCT and SAE. As decided, their films will be displayed at the pop-up cinema.
Out of those movies, short films are a combination of animation, live action, fiction and non-fiction, which will play be presented between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. from Monday, Sept 01, 2025 to Wednesday, Sept 03, 2025.
FAME Week Africa
The FAME Week Africa unites local and global storytellers along with innovators and visionaries. This provides a powerful platform to showcase talent, culture and creativity across the key industries such as film, art, media and entertainment.
At the event held in Cape Town, attendees can further look forward to a dynamic programme that will feature insightful content sessions, film screenings, considering live music, curated exhibitions, and a wide array of networking opportunities. The programmes are specially designed to connect creatives with global partners, investors and audiences.
FAME Week Africa continues to unlock new opportunities to collaborate, invest and indulge in cultural exchange at a global level. Different events are organised to lit up the fest which consists of Short Film Festival and FAME Shorts Film Festival that will take place at The Labia Theatre from Thursday, Sept 04, 2025 till Saturday, Sept 06, 2025.
