The City of Cape Town hosted career exhibition on Friday, October 17, 2025 and welcomed Grade-12 learners from Gugulethu, Manenberg, Heideveld, Nyanga and Philippi high schools at the Gugulethu Sports Complex. The learners had the opportunity to engage with 32 exhibitors on career paths, further study options and employment opportunities.
Corporate Services Portfolio Committee Chairperson – Councillor Fabian Ah-Sing said that as a caring city, they are focused on creating more opportunities for the young leaders of tomorrow. At this career expo, they empowered learners and unemployed youth with exposure to learning and employment opportunities as they interacted with various City directorates and the partners in skills development, higher learning institutions, SETAs, state enterprises and private companies.
Fabian Ah-Sing was accompanied by local ward councillor, Councillor Thembinkosi Mjuza and stated that he hope that all the young men and women left feeling inspired, energised, more informed and ready to keep climbing the ladder of success.

The 32 exhibitors included seven City directorates, SEDA, MER SETA, Transnet, Eskom, Microsoft, SA Aviation Authority, Pathcare, NSFAS, and several institutions of higher learning to name a few.
Considering this, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Corporate Services – Alderman Theresa Uys said that their vision is to be the city of hope for all. To be a prosperous, inclusive and healthy city where people can see and fulfil their hopes for a better future for themselves, their children and their community.
In this financial year the City created 1,700 external training opportunities and 209 apprenticeships for young, unemployed job seekers. Furthermore, we plan to create 1,007 external training opportunities and 251 apprenticeships in the new financial year.
