Cape Town launches the latest edition of This Is Cape Town Magazine to boost visitor economy. Alderman James Vos unveiled the fifth edition of the flagship place-marketing magazine of the city, This is Cape Town.
The magazine was launched at the event with tourism operators and content creators that perfectly timed to coincide with Tourism Month. The publication highlights the six major destinations selected for marketing themes: Visit, Live, Work, Study, Play and Invest.
Reportedly, the Volume-5 shines spotlight on Khayelitsha Fashion Week, the wine routes across the metro and surrounding regions. It also features how Cape Town clothing brands are leading the way in sustainability and localised production.
The magazine is available online. You can also find them in international airport lounges at Cape Town and at selected trade shows. Each of its edition has achieved global digital reach, with hundreds of thousands of readers in markets such as the USA, Ethiopia, Brazil, Nigeria and the United Kingdom.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Growth and Tourism – Alderman James Vos said that This Is Cape Town has become a powerful platform to share many inspiring and innovative stories of the city.
Each edition of the magazine is a celebration of the city and showcase its people and their achievements.
In 2024, the City of Cape Town welcomed 2.4 million visitors overnight who injected roughly R25 billion into the local economy and sustained 106,000 jobs, that counts nearly 7% of all employment in Cape Town.
These figures underline the impact of tourism on sectors that range from hospitality and retail to manufacture and transport.
Alderman James highlighted that they are investing in tourism and place-marketing to grow the value of tourism by attracting more volumes through smart campaigns. This Is Cape Town plays a central role in putting a piece of the city in front of the world and inspiring visitors and investors to choose Cape Town.
According to Vos, more visitors and investment mean more jobs and opportunities for local businesses. The mission is to build on today’s success and grow beyond the numbers so that more Capetonians can share in the benefits of tourism.
