Cape Town Police begins investigation on child murder case

Cape Town: Police of the city are investigating a case of murder after a child was murdered in Bishop Lavis on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred before 11 a.m. in Bishop Lavis, place near the Cape Flats.

Spokesperson of the Provincial Police – Captain Frederick van Wyk confirmed the incident and said that Bishop Lavis police are investigating a murder case following the stabbing incident. On Wednesday, August 07, 2024, the incident happened around 10:40 a.m. at the premises in Sky Road of Bishop Lavis where a five-year-old boy was sustained with a fatal stab wound.

According to the reports from South African Police Services (SAPS) members attended to the complaint at the mentioned address where they were informed about the boy aged five, who was stabbed with a knife.

However, the members immediately followed up the information that led them to a local hospital where the boy was transported by a member from the public of Cape Town.

Captain Wyk said, “At the hospital, they were shown the body with three stab wounds to the back. He was declared deceased by the doctors at the hospital, due to the injuries sustained.”

He confirmed that the suspect has been apprehended. Wyk narrated that a male in his forties, who is believed to be mentally challenged was arrested by the police and taken to Bishop Lavis SAPS for detention. He also cleared that the investigation will continue.

The details of the incident remain sketchy at this time and the community of Bishop Lavis have been gripped by the senseless killing. Motive of the murder is not known at this stage.

As per the reports, the boy was with his aunt at the time of the incident. The crime happened, after she left him with the suspect and went to the shop just before the tragic incident took place, which is yet to be confirmed.
