Cape Town: A suspected criminal has been arrested in connection to the double murder captured on a bakery delivery truck’s dashcam in Delft, Cape Town, last month.
The police spokesperson of South African Police Service – Lt-Col Malcolm Pojie reported on Tuesday that the culprit aged 38, was traced by the investigating team on Sunday to the Delft Day Hospital. There he was being treated after a scuffle with community members who accused him of robbery.
As per the further narration by the spokesperson Pojie, the investigating team visited the hospital, there he recognised the suspect and handcuffed him.
According the details received from the hospital, the suspect has provided false name and details of himself to the hospital administrators.
The suspected criminal was supposed to appear in court on Wednesday, in relation to face the charges of murder, as well as attempted murder and aggravated robbery.
Lt. Col. Pojie said in his narration to the report that the suspect had been identified during an initial stage of the investigation but evaded arrest until the breakthrough occurred on weekend.
Notably, the case was in relation to the suspect and his accomplices who robbed a bread delivery truck in Symphony Way, Delft, Cape Town on May 16, 2024. The suspected fatally wounded the two staff members in the vehicle. However, the accomplices are yet to be arrested.
Earlier, the police have launched a manhunt for suspects who were responsible for a gruesome double murder captured on a bakery delivery truck’s dashcam in the town.
The graphic video of the same has gone viral and revealed the harrowing moments which led to the murders. In the video, three people can be seen sitting inside the truck and counting money before assailants’ attack and robbed the driver and his co-workers.
Previously, in relation to the case police spokesperson, Sgt. Bilqis Poole appealed to the public to assist with the information required about the shooting on the corner of Delft Main Road and Symphony Way.
Considerably, the Delft police responded to a complaint of a shooting. Arriving on the scene, they found that the victims with the wounds of gunshot in the vehicle. The two victims were declared dead on the scene by medical personnel.
Poole added further to his statement that the motive would form part of the investigation. As the suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested. The police have also urged people with and said anyone with the information about the incident or the whereabouts of the suspects are expected to come forward and share the details.
