Cape Town: The City will host an information session for Christmas bands, Malay choir associations and Minstrel groups as preparations begin for the upcoming festive cultural events season. The session aims to provide stakeholders with important information regarding the City’s event permit application procedures and venue booking processes to ensure smooth planning and coordination of cultural activities scheduled for later in the year.
The City of Cape Town is inviting Minstrel associations, Minstrel troupe leaders, Christmas band associations, individual Christmas bands and Malay choir associations to register and participate in the engagement. The information-sharing session will serve as a platform for cultural organisations to gain a clearer understanding of municipal requirements and processes related to hosting and participating in public events.
Events are scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 14, 2026. The session will offer attendees an overview of the City’s regulatory and administrative procedures for securing event permits and booking municipal venues. Officials will also provide guidance on compliance requirements and answer questions from participants.
Interested organisations and groups wishing to attend are required to register by submitting the necessary documentation and information. These include a company registration document or constitution, the organisation’s credentials and the names of the selected representatives who will attend the meeting. Representatives may include association leaders, choir directors, band leaders, or troupe leaders.
Due to venue capacity limitations, attendance will be restricted. Associations will be allowed to nominate a maximum of two representatives, while individual troupes, bands and choirs may register one representative each. The City of Cape Town has encouraged all eligible cultural groups to ensure that their submissions are completed on events@capetown.gov.za before the registration deadline. Registrations will close on June 22, 2026 after which no further applications for participation will be considered.
The annual festive season is an important period for Cape Town’s cultural communities, with Christmas bands, Malay choirs and Minstrel groups playing a significant role in preserving and showcasing the city’s rich heritage and traditions. Through this information session, the City hopes to strengthen collaboration with cultural organisations and facilitate well-organised events that celebrate the diversity and vibrancy of local communities.
