Cape Town: The corruption fighters are out in full force to convey message of zero tolerance. The city youth celebrated World Anti-Corruption Day on Dec 09, 2025 under theme ‘Uniting with Youth Against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity’.
The Ethics and Forensics Department of the City of Cape Town gathered the internal and external corruption fighters from across the public and private entities in a show of force to illustrate the proactive zero tolerance approach of the city towards corruption.
With its proactive approach the City of Cape Town has to fight the corruption, and it prides itself on its highly specialised Ethics and Forensics Services Department that investigates allegations of city corruption without fear or favour. It is also valuable pro-active and supportive partner to other government investigative authorities.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Finance – Councillor Siseko Mbandezi said that the city administration is dedicated to fight corruption and fraud and to protect public funds and service delivery at all costs. Over the years, digital and technological innovation has become increasingly key for investigative authorities.
The department has expanded its capabilities to undertake the digital forensic investigations and data analytics and increased the group of specialist service providers it has access to. Forensic investigations employ digital forensic experts, even handwriting experts and tools to secure and analyse digital evidence. As a member of the City of Cape Town, they continue to evolve the accountability mechanisms, and the political and administrative leadership remains that are absolutely committed to clean governance.
According to Mbandezi, the City of Cape Town has recorded clean audits that reflects the commitment to transparency, accountability and sound financial management along with the robust internal controls that are continuously monitoring the culture of compliance.
This ensured that all public funds are managed responsibly and that the services are delivered where they are needed much. The internal forensics and investigative teams go above and beyond to ensure that they live the commitment to zero tolerance of corruption, often at great personal cost and under strenuous conditions.
