The city’s community, Arts and Culture Department supports various organisations through GIA funding to deliver impactful projects which contribute to the cultural vibrancy and community well-being of the city.
As per the sources, the GIA call mainly focuses of projects or programmes for young people aged 07 to 35 and vulnerable groups including women, children, senior citizens and persons living with disabilities.

The projects and programmes are contributing in building a city of hope through sustainable cultural development, taking cultural, social, economic and environmental outputs into account, and fosters an appreciation for the arts, creativity and heritage.
The main objective of the funding was to support the projects that make cultural and art activities more accessible to all residents, ensuring that every community gets benefitted from and participates in cultural richness of the Cape Town.
Process of the GIA funding application will only consider the projects in the categories of visual and performing arts, including hip-hop and other dance forms, temporary public art, heritage awareness and storytelling that includes cultural mapping and planning and therapeutic interventions.
However, the therapeutic value of arts relates to support the social well-being of individuals, families and communities by using arts, culture and creative activities to assist vulnerable groups in overcoming stress, trauma and disability and have a positive impact on the participants’ cognition, emotions and overall well-being.
