Cape Town: Eastern parking area at Muizenberg Beachfront is once again open to the public. The Coastal Management Branch of the City of Cape Town is pleased to announce that the eastern parking area in front of the Muizenberg Civic Centre is now open to the public.
Reportedly, some of the minor works are still taking place, but all-in-all the area is ready for visitors to the beachfront.
The refurbishment of the Muizenberg Beachfront entails major upgrades to public amenities and replacing the aged seawalls. This forms part of the investment of the City of Cape Town in popular beachfront areas to mitigate the impact of climate change and improve the quality of infrastructure in the area.
Considering this, Deputy Mayor and Member of the Mayoral Committee for Spatial Planning and Environment – Alderman Eddie Andrews said that they know how important the parking areas are at this very popular beachfront, and he is delighted to let the public know that the eastern parking area in front of the Muizenberg Civic Centre, on the beachside, is now open for use.
He further said, “I’m sure visitors will enjoy the new paved area, and improvements. Some minor work is still ongoing and the soft landscaping will be implemented in due course.”
The Deputy Mayor added that in the meantime, work is progressing well despite the delays due to rain.
According to Andrews, this project is being implemented in phases over a two-year period. The first phase commenced in February 2025 on the western side of Surfer’s Corner, next to the railway line where the informal gravel parking area is under construction and thus, remained closed to the public.
He confirmed that they are on track to open the St. James Walkway in time for the festive season and will keep residents informed. “I also want to thank the local community and business owners for their continued support and understanding,” said Deputy Mayor Eddie Andrews.
