Zambia: Coaches from various football clubs in Monze District have urged the government to improve the football infrastructure of the country. The coaches of the district made the appeal in light of the popularity of the sport among the youngsters.

The sports stakeholders of the country urged the administration to  improvement of sports infrastructure through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).  The Constituency Development Fund has been helping the people of the various communities get access to crucial infrastructural development.

The improvement of the football infrastructure in the country will help the youngsters become b their capabilities. FC Gunase’s Coach, Gift Ngwenya, expressed concern over the lack of inclusion of sports facilities in the CDF allocations.

He acknowledged that this is despite the fact that The Community Development Fund  plays significant role in community development. Notably, Football is one of the biggest and most popular sport in the country.

However, despite the popularity and status of the sports, many communities do not have access to the adequate infrastructure. The officials have come forward with their grievances and called on the government to work in their support.

Ngwenya lamented the absence of adequate football fields in the district, which hampers the advancement of football quality.  He pointed to the Harry Mwanga Nkumbula Stadium as a prime example of the infrastructural neglect.

Ngwenya emphasized that enhancing football facilities would enable Monze to host major matches, including national-level competitions, thereby fostering the district’s economic growth.

He has called upon the government to prioritize sports and recreation facilities in the CDF, recognizing their potential to transform the community.

In a related statement, Mayor Nchimunya, a Youth Coach at Monze Athletic Sports Academy, highlighted the role of sports infrastructure development in engaging the district’s unemployed youth.

He noted that while the government may not be able to provide jobs for all youths, it can facilitate sports development, which offers a constructive outlet for their energy and talents.
