Malawi: Ministry of Education in Malawi has been urging teachers in the Central East Education Division (CEED) to work with dedication and discipline. he in order to achieve good educational outcomes including improved learners’ performance.
Deputy Director for Secondary Education, Samuel Chibwana made these remarks on Friday in Kasungu District. At the time of the address, he was presiding over the awards of best teachers and students for the 2024 academic year in the CEED.
He asserted during his address that the teachers must work with dedication and discipline as they are important qualities for teachers. The teachers also seek to create a supportive and engaging environment which is suitable for learning for the students.
“This is why we are giving out these awards today in recognition of the excellent work you did and we are double sure that once we equip you with the necessary resources and expertise, we will achieve the desired educational outcomes.
The teachers across the region must avoid complacency because of the recognition that they are receiving through he Creed Programme. The awards should encourage the teachers to work even harder.
Cosmas Chintowe from Chayamba Secondary School was the overall winner and received a six-inch double mattress and a trophy. He revealed that he wants to be a good teacher for his students in the region and was delighted to be recognized for his efforts.
The teachers in the region can lack teaching and learning material which can pose a problem for the students. But it is also important to remember thata wise teacher will always be resourceful, striving to bridge such a gap. The teachers must learn to improvise with learning materials that could still make the learners understand the gist of the lesson.”
Loyola Jesuit Secondary School was recognized as the best national secondary school in the division, The other schools which were recognized included Nkhamenya Girls and Robert Blake Secondary schools.
Kafukule Community Day Secondary School (CDSS) was acknoledged with the best CDSS prize. On the other hand, Nkhotakota Secondary School was recognized as the best district boarding secondary school.
Standard Bank, FDH Bank and Pinnacle, a micro loan financial institution were responsible for supporting the annual awards ceremony.The activities for the awards event started with a procession from CEED headquarters to Chankhanga CDSS.
