Zambia: Government of Zambia is disappointed on seeing the Chienge district residents involved in demolishing of Mununga Police Post. The community members also beat a murder suspect held in police custody as a form of mob justice.
The officials have shared that the members of the community took the law practices in their own control. These actions were termed both derogatory and regressive for the community. The Chienge District Commissioner, Favorite Musangu expressed his agreement with the government.
He claimed that demolishing of the police post and attack on police officers on duty is going against the government’s commitment of ensuring security and law and order. This is being done in order to facilitate development in the district.
Musangu said that a mob invaded Mununga Police Post and forcibly removed a murder suspect. They subjected to mob justice, by beating him up leading him to geet deep cuts on the head.
Musangu has asked the members of the public to desist from taking the law into their own hands but allow the law to take its course. The loss of infrastructure is becoming a cause of concern for the people of the country.

“The infrastructure there is built to serve the very people that are causing damage to property. This is an act that we condemn as a government and we urge people not to take the law into their own hands and perpetrators of this act will be held to justice,” Musangu said.
Zambia Police Spokesperson, Rae Hamoonga has said that the incident happened yesterday around 05:00 hours. The incident resulted in extensive destruction of the police post infrastructure after the people of the attacked the officers on duty before breaking into police cells to extract the suspect.
The police has identified the suspect as Derrick Mwale. He has been detained at the Police Post on allegations that he had murdered his former wife. Grace Kaoma. Afterwards, he had secretly buried her body. The woman had been missing since January 12, 2025.
Officer Hamoonga said while the family was searching for her, the suspect called them stating that Kaoma was dead and buried near her farming field. The suspect was in police custody till the mob extracted him, beat him up and injured him.
Mwale is currently in Chienge district hospital nursing serious injuries.
