While speaking at the event, Minister Akbar said that children are a precious gift from God, and it is very important that parents, guardians and communities provide them with the necessary love and care.

“I am a mother and a grandmother as well as a Minister. We, as parents and grandparents, are such a key and positive force in the life of a child, and I applaud you all for coming here today to celebrate the steps of your children in life’s journey”.

Minister Akbar further said that the Fijian Government has been consistent through the national budgetary process, investing millions into the education sector.

“Education goes a long way, and investing in Education is one of the most important ways in which we can improve our world. Access to quality Education leads to a reduction in poverty, increases income and economic growth, and increases the chances for one to have a healthy life. Having access to Education can provide children who have been marginalised by poverty, ethnicity, disability, location or gender with the means to engage in academia. Early childhood education is a critical step in the development and learning of a child, preparing them for their future.”

She added that graduation ceremonies are important because they allow our children to reflect on their outstanding achievements and celebrate a year of friendship and learning.

“I believe this is a momentous occasion for all the children present today. The Fijian Government upholds your right to Education. Therefore, I would like to encourage you all to strive always for your dreams and what you believe in. Study hard and always remember children to love one another and respect your parents.”

“I encourage everyone present here that we need a collective effort in building our children through good values as the children present here are the foundations of our beloved country. Teaching them to behave respectfully towards each other and their parents and teachers, to embrace diversity, and to solve problems through thoughtful negotiation, is critically important for social cohesion and a peaceful future for Fiji. Children are the leaders of tomorrow. Let us ensure we give them all the skills they need to lead their families and Fiji forward,” she stated.

Minister Akbar acknowledged the teachers, school management and parents for organising the kindergarten graduation event. “You all play a significant role in shaping the life of a child through the provision of learning and love and care which builds a child to become a better Fijian and contribute positively to our society and country.”
