A student of the Chisumbu Primary School has come forward to raise his  voice in favour of protecting the interests of the children.

Malawi: A student of the Chisumbu Primary School has come forward to raise his  voice in favour of protecting the interests of the children. The student  in question has been identified as Ida Nyirenda.

He has urged stakeholders to ensure that abusers of child rights are given strict punishments for their actions. The child abuse is becoming a cause of concern for the law enforcement agencis of the island.

The student, Nyirenda made the call on Saturday during this year’s Commemoration of Day of the African child. The event commemorating the day was hosted in Karonga amid reports that the district recorded high incidences of child rights abuse.

The leadership of the country have been working hard to make the children of the nation feel safer and training them to protect themselves in thee event of an emergency. The law enforcement organizations have urged the children to report incidents of abuse and neeglect

The Chisumbu Primary School student was the guest of honour at the commemoration event. He said it was a sad situation that most of the children drop out of school because they are abused.

The students are thus unable to to proceed with their education and compromise their future fearing further abuse.

“Most parents do not allow their children to go to school especially those with physical disabilities and are left at home as parents go for their normal day to day duties,” she said.

Nyirenda called on all stakeholders to take all necessary measures to ensure inclusive education for all saying this would ensure children grow into their full potential.

District Social Welfare Officer for Karonga, Henry Mshanga said that the area was chosen to hold the event because of high level of child right.

“Through this day, we take stock of children related programs, listen to our children’s needs and challenges so that we are able to provide for them the best of what they need,” he said.

The Day was commemorated under the theme ‘Promoting quality and inclusive education for all children in Malawi’.
