Zambia: Chilalantambo Ward of the Choma District is facing the issue of wild dogs attacking cattle and livestock. The administration of the district shared that they are working on combating the situation. The Chilalantambo Ward councilor, Herby Sibajene appreciated the Department of National Parks and Wildlife for their efforts.
The Department has deployed officers to control the wild dogs who are killing the livestock in the district. The officials have shared that they have been patrolling the area continuously for the last few weeks. The Ward Councilor shared that he is happy with the success of the work done by the team.
The administration noted that the efforts will ensure that the people of the ward can continue to live their normal lives with ease. The patrolling officers have also allowed the people of the country to feel safer in the community.
The ward councillor has encouraged the people of the country to take necessary precautions and keep themselves safe. Attacks from stray dogs can put the people of the ward in danger of contracting deadly diseases, such as rabies.
Further, the attacks can also be fatal for the people of the country. Notably, the attacks have already claimed the lives of 5 Sheep, 3 Pigs and 3 domestic dogs in the locality.
The residents of the ward have shared their concern about the increasing insecurity that has been affecting the community. They spoke to the media regarding the attacks from the wild dogs and how it is affecting them.
Some families who are dependent on livestock for their businesses are worried about the safety of their animals.
A resident of the Chilalantambo Ward, Hillary Hamoombe, told the media that she had seen pawprints of the Wild Dogs Monday morning. According to the resident, the prints suggest that the animals move from the southern direction to the eastern parts of Hampwaye Village.
According to the ward councillor, three wild dogs have been spotted in the ward thus far.
