Zambia: Police in Chongwe District have shot and wounded one suspected criminal wanted for a series of crimes in Lusaka. The criminal was with an accomplice who has escaped without injuries after  the police officers chased him.

The officers have shared the details of the incident with the media. The Chongwe District Police Force said that they are believed to be among other suspects who hid in Chongwe District after committing crimes in Lusaka.

Zambia Police Deputy Spokesperson Danny Mwale confirmed the incident to the media in an official police statement. He stated that the two suspects have been on the Police wanted list for various criminal offences.

The list of offenses includes obtaining money by false pretenses involving a sum of K820, 000. The investigating officers said that they had obrained the money fraudulently from three people in Lusaka.

Deputy Spokesperson of the Zambia Police, Mwale disclosed that Police officers in Chongwe District had the description of the suspects. Some officers out of this number spotted the criminals in Mwalongo village area.

The offenders were in a Toyota Mark X bearing registration number BAP 8246.

He said the suspects sped off after noticing Police presence but officers gave them a chase and deflated their rear tires before the suspects abandoned their vehicle and ran away.

“One suspect who was later identified as Arnold Namushi, aged 20, was hit by bullets and sustained wounds on his left thigh and left arm. He was rushed to the hospital where he is receiving treatment,” Officer Mwale said.

Further, Mwale explained that Police officers searched the vehicle and found assorted documents including signed letters of sale of land.  He indicated that the documents are suspected to have been used in commissioning some of the crimes.

Further Deputy Spokesperson of the Zambia Police Force said that the vehicle is currently parked at the Chongwe Police station. The vehicle has been detained for further investigations and a manhunt for the other suspect has been launched.
