Cape Town: The Electricity Generation and Distribution Department (EGDD) of the City of Cape Town advises residents of critical infrastructure that will upgrade the schedule for Observatory, Salt River and parts of Woodstock on Friday, Jan 24, 2025 or on Friday, Feb 07, 2025 depending on weather conditions.
Reportedly, the upgradation will interrupt electricity supply and the electricity will disrupted in the following areas such as Observatory, Salt River and Parts of Woodstock.
Moreover, the work will be carried out overnight on Friday, Jan 24, 2025 from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, Jan 25, 2025. Depending upon the weather conditions, the work could be rescheduled to take place on Friday, Feb 07, 2025 from 8:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb 08, 2025.
Notably, the outage duration is an estimation and restoration that could be delayed due to the complex nature of the infrastructure work. The teams will work as quickly as possible to complete the work within the communicated time.
However, if the electrical loads are too high on restoration or unforeseen matters occur, the restoration times could be impacted and can be changes accordingly. Residents will not have electricity supply while the work is being carried out. The electricity supply interruption will only impact the highlighted areas on the map.
Furthermore, the residents are advised to check the official communication channels of the City of Cape Town considering the social media channels of the city or contact the Call Centre for any new updates on the upgrades.
As per the notice released, the electricity supply could be restored at any time and customers must treat all the electrical installations as live for the full duration of the interruption. The residents are also encouraged to switch off the appliances when not in use and avoid damage caused by power surges when the power comes back.
The City of Cape Town also apologised for any inconvenience that is caused and thanked residents for their cooperation and understanding. Some news channels could imply that this work could affect the electricity supply to all areas in the city which is not true.
