Cape Town: The city enforcement agency has confiscated over 4500 litres of alcohol this December. More than half of the confiscations happened in last week. The officers also made 264 arrests and issued 52,520 fines for various transgressions.
The city’s liquor pound took receipt of 1,942,74 litres of alcohol (i.e. 4210 units or bottles) between Dec 01 and 21, 2025. By Dec 28, the total count increased to 4,634,69 litres (i.e. 9838 units or bottles).
This count of pound is managed by the Law Enforcement, but all the city enforcement agencies are mandated to confiscate alcohol in terms of the by-laws. In past week, the Law Enforcement Officers made 155 arrests and issued 5,999 fines.
During these operations, LEAP officers have recovered at least four firearms. The Metro Police officers have made 52 arrests and issued 3,166 notices for traffic and by-law offences.
While the confiscation was still going on, the officers have also recovered a pistol, a revolver and an imitation firearm and impounded various quantities of alcohol and drugs.
Recently, on Dec 29, 2025 the officers have recovered a stolen vehicle in Macassar after receiving a tip off. They arrested a suspect aged 42 years. And on the roads, the Traffic Officers recorded 43,355 offences and impounded 156 public transport vehicles and executed 951 warrants of arrest.
They made 57 arrests out of which 50 were for drunk driving, 03 for reckless and negligent driving and 04 are more on various charges.
Considering this, the Public Emergency Communication Centre of the City of Cape Town dispatched assistance for 1850 incidents this past weekend.
The medical incidents are accounted for 40% of all calls. The centre also logged 119 fires and noted an increase in calls for assistance for 279 noise nuisances and dispatched assistance to 29 motor vehicle and pedestrian accidents.
PECC also logged 132 assault cases, 59 domestic violence cases and 19 cases of self-harm.
