Cape Town: Permits for Malay Choir Road March and Klopse Parade has been granted, as the Cape Town Minstrel Carnival is coming near. The City of Cape Town has approved the passage for the Cape Malay Choir Board Road March and Tweede Nuwe Jaar Minstrel Parade.
The two events will showcase the culture of Cape Town, its vibrant heritage and tradition that will begin this week. The City of Cape Town would like to advise spectators and residents on event logistics.
Events Permit Office of City of Cape Town has finalised permits for the Cape Malay Choir Board Road March and the Cape Town Street Parade.
Member of the Mayoral Committee for Safety and Security – Alderman JP Smith said that this is always a special time for thousands of residents who get the opportunity to celebrate and honour long-standing traditions that form part of the fabric of this great city.
Smith added that City of Cape Town is proud to collaborate with the Cape Malay Choir Board and the Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association (KKKA) by providing financial and logistical support to ensure that all continue to honour the traditions for many more years to come.
Notably, the City of Cape Town officials has worked diligently with the organisations and other role-players to put measures in place to ensure that roads are clear for the troupes as well as for spectators to enjoy the festivities in a safe and family-friendly environment.
The Cape Malay Road March will usher in the New Year with traditional Malay Music, Drums and Marching, while several choirs have already presented on the streets on Dec 31, 2024.
Furthermore, the evening will begin with a procession from Rose Street in Bo-Kaap at 9:30 p.m. before making its way down to the Wale Street for a finish in Adderley Street. The event will finish at 4:00 a.m. on Jan 01, 2025, accordingly.
Considering this, several roads in the CBD will remain closed from 6:00 p.m. on Dec 31, 2024 due to road march.
Tweede Nuwe Jaar Minstrel Parade
Cape Town Minstrel Carnival Street Parade also known as Tweede Nuwe Jaar will welcome the New Year in the streets of the CBD on Saturday, Jan 04, 2025. Almost 20,000 performers from 18 minstrel troupes will entertain crowds with the rhythmic symphony of banjos, guitars, ghoema drums, trombones and tubas.
The Parade will begin from District Six around mid-day, as the procession of performers will entertain the crowd with the historic route before they end in Bo-Kaap.
Dressed up in their dazzling colourful costumes, the performers will also put on a show in front of the historic City Hall and along Darling Street where thousands of spectators will gather.
The event will have a significant impact on several roads around the CBD on Saturday, Jan 04, 2025 between 06:00 a.m. and 11:55 p.m.
