Cape Town: Local informal traders were invited to apply for a spot at Tyberg Nature Reserve. The Biodiversity Management Branch of the City of Cape Town is offering an exciting opportunity for local informal traders to showcase and sell their products at the reserve.
The initiative aims to support small businesses and promote local economic development, especially within the neighbouring communities of Bellville, Brackenfell and Durbanville.
Deputy Mayor and Member of the Mayoral Committee for Spatial Planning and Environment – Alderman Eddie Andrews said that the registered informal traders especially the ones who are offering locally produced, handmade and artisanal goods are encouraged to apply for a trading spot at the Tygerberg Nature Reserve.
According to Andrews, this initiative will provide a platform for local entrepreneurs to reach new customers and will also enhance the visitors experience at the reserve. The reserve offers a picturesque and well-frequented location, ideal for promoting and selling products to a wide audience of nature lovers and local visitors.
The temporary trading spots will be made available for six months at a time. The first intake of ten traders will be from July 01, 2025 until August 30, 2025 at a cost of r100 for these two months outside of the peak season.
Furthermore, the second intake will be conducted from September 2025 until February 28, 2026 during the peak season at a cost of R1050 for six months.
Notably, the reserve has ten spots available and the applications will be dealt with on a first-come basis. The City of Cape Town will ensure that there is no duplication in terms of the products on offer amongst the approved vendor applications.
Significantly, it should be noted that the sale of all alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, drug related food and beverages, as well as balloons will be prohibited completely. The traders are encouraged to showcase a wide range of unique products. As, all the traders will be reviewed monthly to ensure compliance and quality standards.
